India Hosts: Raja & Elise Sahota
Raja Sahota is from a small town called Jalandhar in Punjab, a state of India. His career started with an abrupt end to higher education and induction into
mainstream companies like Nestle and Reebok.
Raja’s love for adventure sparked at a young age but it took him years of working with corporate companies and non-governmental organizations to reach the correct place. Work led him to Dharamsala, India and this encouraged him to start trekking and exploring in the Himalayas. Raja has spent 10 years working with international NGOs and has worked with 3,000+ international volunteers. He is also a frequent mentor with the Navjagriti Youth Club and a small business associate with the local non-profit, Leave No Trace. His connections to the community in India allow travelers to enter as welcomed and expected guests. After much community development, Raja decided to start a business called the Himalayan Explorers to train local at-risk youth in mountaineering and to help them learn the skills necessary to provide for their families. He is very passionate about positive and efficient change, and working to keep the Himalayas clean.
Elise Sahota was born and raised in Sonoma, California. After her first year in college, Elise decided to travel to India. Immediately, she fell in love with the languages, culture and incredible hospitality that the small hill town of Dharamsala provided. After much consideration, Elise decided to move to Dharamsala and become apart of the community with her husband (Raja) and daughter Layla for the last six years.
Together, they’re the perfect hosts to welcome you to their home community of Dharamsala.
